I’m walking in the Out of the Darkness Verona Park Walk to fight suicide and support AFSP’s bold goal to reduce the suicide rate 20% by 2025.
Suicide is one of the top causes of death in the United States, with rates rising across the country. Nearly 45,000 Americans died by suicide in 2016, according to the CDC. Suicide can be prevented with education, advocacy and support.
There was a time in my life when I was in so much pain, I had thoughts of giving up and committing suicide. Suicide is forever, but the stress leading up to it is often temporary. For over 2 years, I suffered from severe migraine headaches which over time manifested into insomnia, depression and autoimmune diseases. The chronic stress of my job was literally killing me. Thankfully, I healed myself by learning holistic techniques through acupuncture, mindfulness, yoga/fitness and nutrition.
